Spellers Compete for Title of 2019 Kyrene School District Spelling Bee Champion

It was a packed house at the annual Kyrene School District Spelling Bee on Wednesday, January 23, 2019. All 25 Kyrene schools sent representatives to compete.

 

Congratulations to District Champion Katherine Rayter, an 8th grade student at Kyrene Altadeña Middle School. Rayter and 2nd place winner Matteo Paspuel Onate, a 7th grade student at Kyrene Aprende Middle School, will both head to the Maricopa County Regional Bee to compete on February 23, 2019.

1st place: Katherine Rayter (grade 8) – Kyrene Altadeña Middle School

2nd place: Matteo Paspuel Onate (grade 7) – Kyrene Aprende Middle School

3rd place: Swathi Bharath (grade 5) – Kyrene Traditional Academy

4th place: Xavier Carroll (grade 5) –  Kyrene de la Mariposa & Daniel Zubey (grade 4) –  Kyrene de los Cerritos

 

Rayter’s championship word was Immaculate. Kyrene wishes both Rayter and Onate good L-U-C-K at the Regional Bee.
