Kyrene Governing Board Approves 2-2-2 Calendar Adoption

Posted May 2022

The Kyrene Governing Board voted on May 24 to adopt calendars for the 2023-24, 2024-25, and 2025-26 school years. The calendars reflect a transition to a new model, beginning in 2023-24.

The new model is a 2-2-2 school year calendar (two weeks each for fall break, winter break, and spring break). Kyrene will continue the current 1-2-1 calendar (one-week fall break, two-week winter break, one-week spring break) next year and will transition the following year.

As previously shared, a calendar committee made up of representatives from Kyrene, Tempe Elementary and Tempe Union High School Districts has been working to align calendars, to better serve our families and staff with children enrolled in multiple districts. The committee considered survey feedback from all three districts, calendar trends in surrounding districts, and best practices for student learning.

Kyrene School District will have a full year to prepare for this transition, to address the unique needs of families and staff, from childcare options to work schedules. Additional information will be shared in the coming year.
