Kyrene teacher and student receive International Baccalaureate awards
Posted September 2020
A Kyrene teacher and former student are the recipients of the 2020 Arizona International Baccalaureate Schools Middle Years Programme Teacher of the Year and Student of the Year awards. These recognitions identify two outstanding individuals throughout the 15 Arizona schools participating in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP).
Kyrene teacher, Debra Rosenblum, was named the AZ IB Middle Years Programme Teacher of the Year, and former Kyrene Middle School student, Quinn Sacalis (a 2019-20 8th grader), was named the AZ IB Middle Years Programme Student of the Year.
Kyrene Middle School became an authorized IB school in 2019, after a rigorous two-year candidacy period. IB MYP is a result of Kyrene’s continued efforts to amplify academic excellence, responsive instruction and student agency.
As an IB school, Kyrene Middle School teachers use IB methodologies to develop internationally minded learners, working within a global context while exploring significant content. With a strong world language component, IB MYP offers a unique opportunity for students of Kyrene Middle School’s Dual Language Academy to continue their focus on Spanish language immersion, while other students explore Mandarin or Sign Language.
