Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)

Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive evidence-based approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students to be successful. PBIS provides an integrated continuum across the Kyrene School District to achieve positive social, emotional and academic outcomes. Attention is focused on creating and sustaining school-wide, classroom and individual systems of support that improves learning.

    Six important principles of PBIS:

    1. Develop a continuum of behavior, academic interventions and supports
    2. Use data to make decisions and solve problems
    3. Arrange the environment to prevent the occurrence of problem behavior
    4. Teach and encourage prosocial skills and behaviors
    5. Implement evidence-based behavioral practices with fidelity and accountability
    6. Screen universally, monitor student performance and progress continuously
