Welcome to Centennial AVID!
AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in college and their career. The program places special emphasis on growing writing, critical thinking, teamwork, organization and reading skills.
AVID is in-school academic support program that prepares all students for college eligibility and success. It is implemented schoolwide by using WICOR strategies. WICOR stands for writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading that is used in all content areas.
The AVID Elective class is for students in the academic middle, those who might be a minority, from rural or low inome areas or don't have a college going tradition in their family. These students have the desire for higher education and are capable of completing rigorous curriculum in more advanced classes using the supports provided through the Elective class curriculum and will to work hard.
