The Student/Superintendent Council is one of five Superintendent Councils formed to facilitate engagement of key stakeholders in the work of the District. Providing students with an opportunity to meet with the Superintendent on a regular basis and and provide feedback on District initiatives, the SSC is composed of representatives from each of the 25 schools in Kyrene--one 5th grader from each of the elementary schools and one student from each grade level (6-8) in middle school.
SSC representatives are brought to the District Office each month. Topics addressed have included:
- College and career readiness
- Engineering Month challenge
- GRIT--what it takes to be successful
- Design your ideal middle school
Field trips have included visits to the State Capitol, where students were given a tour of the Arizona House of Representatives and Senate, including sitting at legislator desks on the floor of each chamber, and participating in a mock hearing in an actual hearing room.
Students also visited Arizona State University, for a tour and to participate in focus groups on defining the "School of the Future".
