RISE UP Schools
Empowering district and school leaders to create an equitable, inclusive, and just system for every student by relentlessly pursuing transformational leadership, teaching and learning in our RISE UP schools.
Strengthen the educational environment, instructional practices and school-based systems in order to
Elevate the possibilities of educators to
Unleash the potential of student scholars and
Propel student scholars towards their destiny.
As part of Kyrene School District’s unwavering commitment to its vision that all students achieve at their maximum potential to become problem-solvers, creators, and visionaries of tomorrow, the District has identified five schools to receive additional support and resources in order to close achievement gaps and transform the lives of students.
Those transformation schools are:
- Kyrene de la Colina
- Kyrene de las Lomas
- Kyrene de los Niños
- Centennial Middle School
- Kyrene Middle School
- A systemic approach and district ownership are key to success.
- School leadership makes the difference in transformation.
- Sustained change requires ongoing support and accountability.
While the focus of PLE will be on growing and empowering school leaders, there will also be both benefits and increased expectations for certified staff at Kyrene’s four transformation schools. Certified staff at these four schools receive annual stipends, additional professional development and dedicated collaboration time. Kyrene School District has committed to reduced student-teacher ratios and increased resources at RISE Up schools.
The Kyrene Governing Board approved the award of a contract with Darden/Curry Partnership for Leaders in Education (PLE), a joint program of the University of Virginia Darden School of Business and the Curry School of Education. PLE is designed to empower education leaders to effectively and efficiently operate schools to achieve transformative outcomes. It is one of only two K-12 organizations nationally recognized to do this kind of work. The PLE partnership is a three-year commitment with a focus on leadership development.
Before selecting Darden/Curry Partnership for Leaders in Education, Kyrene School District issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) that sought three outcomes:
- Dramatically increase student achievement in low-performing schools.
- Support and empower teachers by creating professional learning environments.
- Develop school leadership in the areas of instructional excellence and staff development.
Kyrene School District strives to see every single one of its schools succeed. The partnership aims to ensure a more equitable, inclusive and just school system, for the benefit of every Kyrene student.
