Four Kyrene teachers are recipients of the Palo Verde Fiesta Bowl Charities Wishes for Teachers grants. The charity granted more than $1 million in grant money to 500 Arizona teachers this year, including four from Kyrene. Teachers were each awarded $2,500 to grant a wish in their classrooms. The Kyrene educators and their wishes are:
Michelle Ang, Kyrene Traditional Academy | Subject: Special Education
Michelle’s wish is to purchase new socioemotional learning books for her classroom library.
Holly Cook, Kyrene de la Estrella | Subject: Reading Intervention
Holly’s wish is to purchase books, reading materials and whiteboards for her students.
Taylor Day, Kyrene de la Colina | Subject: Music
Taylor’s wish is to purchase new drums, xylophones and sheet music for music class.
Johanna Segura, Kyrene de la Sierra | Subject: Science and Social Studies
Johanna’s wish is to purchase science toolkits and sensory items for students.
Each fall, Arizona K-12 public or charter school teachers are invited to fill out an online application detailing a school or classroom need. The wishes are verified and selected through a random drawing.
Over the nine years of the program, Fiesta Bowl Wishes for Teachers has granted $8.25 million to more than 2,600 Arizona teachers, impacting more than one million children across the state. For more information, or for a full list of granted wishes, visit www.fiestabowl.org.
