Kyrene schools are full of stories of perseverance, leadership, and community impact, and we were proud to see members of our district recognized at the Tempe Coalition’s 9th Annual Champions of Youth Awards. This event celebrates the individuals and organizations making a significant impact in the lives of local youth, helping them live to their full potential.
Please join us in congratulating the following individuals:
Ryan H., Kyrene del Pueblo Middle School
Ryan was nominated for the courage and resilience he has shown following a devastating family loss. His story is one of one of perseverance, character, and leadership, showing how strength and kindness can shine even in the face of hardship.
Richard F., Kyrene Aprende Middle School
An eighth grade student at Kyrene Aprende, Richard was recognized for his remarkable transformation. Through hard work and determination, Richard has turned early struggles into strength, and now serves as a mentor and role model for his peers, helping others navigate challenges and find their own pathways to success.
Detective Pete Walters, Kyrene Middle School
Detective Pete Walters, affectionately known as “Officer Pete” to his students, was honored with the Protector Award for his unwavering commitment as a mentor and trusted presence at Kyrene Middle School, where he serves as the Student Resource Officer. From connecting with students one-on-one to supporting families and the wider school community, Officer Pete demonstrates every day the impact of care, guidance, and meaningful relationships.
Among the honorees were also many high school students who began their journey as Kyrene Kids. Their achievements illustrate that the values cultivated in Kyrene—resilience, leadership, and compassion—stay with our students long after they leave our classrooms, continuing to make a difference in our community.
