Kyrene Schools Recognized Statewide for Building Caring, Positive School Cultures

Over half of Kyrene Schools have been recognized by the Arizona PBIS Coalition for their hard work implementing and maintaining Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to improve academic and behavioral outcomes for students.

“Kyrene School District is dedicated to building safe, kind, responsible, and respectful schools,” Assistant Director of Prevention, Lainie Sgouros said. “Through intentional coaching and consistent district-wide implementation, we transform these core principles into a caring, positive school culture on our campuses.”

The award recognizes a school’s dedication and commitment to improving student outcomes using consistent PBIS initiatives on campus. The schools receiving the awards for 2025-26 are:

This recognition highlights Kyrene’s dedication to creating and sustaining school-wide systems of support that improve learning and ensure all students are successful socially, emotionally and academically.

“Receiving Arizona's PBIS Level 4 Recognition is an honor that reflects the dedication of our students, staff, and families," Kyrene de las Lomas Principal Tika DeGraffenreid said. “PBIS helps us create a positive, inclusive school culture where students feel safe, connected, and ready to learn. We are proud to be recognized for fostering an environment where every child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.”

Awards will be presented during the Arizona PBIS Coalition awards ceremony from 12-3:30 p.m. on Friday, November 13 at the Pendergast Early Learning Center in Phoenix.
