District News
Young students with disabilities and their typically developing peers will have more opportunities to learn together and from each other in Kyrene School District’s newly redesigned preschool program. In the 2026-27 school year, the district’s preschool for students 3 to 5 years old will be offered regionally at select campuses, and every classroom will be supported by a full team of educators.
"Starting school is one of the biggest milestones a family goes through, and we want every Kyrene family to feel like preschool is designed with their child in mind,” said Josh Glider, Director of Community Education. “This new model gives us the chance to do that in a way that's more accessible, more flexible, and more connected."
The redesigned program builds on Kyrene’s commitment to providing rigorous, responsive learning environments. Under the new model, students will have more opportunities to learn and play alongside their peers of all abilities. In this environment, students will learn from each other, build friendships and develop important social skills. With a strong focus on co-planning and collaboration, instructional teams will work together throughout the day to ensure children receive the support they need.
"Inclusive early childhood settings benefit every child in the classroom,” said Tzipi Turner, Director of Exceptional Student Services. “When children learn and play alongside peers with different strengths and needs, they develop empathy, communication skills, and a sense of community that stays with them. We're proud to bring that experience to more Kyrene families."
Kyrene Preschool will be available on nine campuses throughout Ahwatukee, Chandler, and Tempe with flexible options so students receive the right level of support in the setting that works best for them.
Families can choose from options ranging from five full days to four half days in the morning or afternoons, with or without before and aftercare. Preschool will also be offered on campuses with varying start times to better serve families’ schedules.
