Bus Stop Placement

For eligible students, bus stop placement considers the location and number of riders, walking distance and pedestrian access, major roadway crossings, traffic speed and volume, visibility, roadway design, safe waiting and loading areas, and available shade when feasible. Transportation also considers whether a bus can safely and legally stop, load and unload students, turn, and reenter traffic, as well as bus size, roadway width, construction, private-property access, route length, capacity, driver availability, scheduled arrival times, and overall route efficiency.

The published stop identifies where the bus loads and unloads students. Students should wait in a safe nearby area away from moving traffic and approach only after the bus has stopped and the driver indicates it is safe. Bus stops are not supervised by District staff, so families are responsible for determining the supervision their child needs while traveling to, waiting at, and returning from the stop. Stop locations and route times may be adjusted based on ridership, roadway conditions, operational needs, or continued safety review.
