Dear Mirada Community,

As the new school year approaches, we want to provide an update on remediation of the flood damage on the Kyrene de la Mirada Leadership Academy campus and preparations for the temporary relocation of all students and staff to the former Kyrene de las Manitas campus.

Flood Remediation

Remediation efforts, including demolition and essential cleanup, are wrapping up this week. The next phase is a comprehensive deep cleaning process that will take several weeks, followed by air quality testing to ensure the environment is safe for reconstruction to begin.

Reconstruction will include new walls, flooring, cabinetry and interior finishes. The district is also working with vendors and our insurance provider to replace all furniture and equipment that was lost.

Temporary Relocation

District teams have been working to prepare the former Manitas campus for Mirada students and staff. This includes classroom assignments, technology setup, and the relocation of furniture, instructional materials and classroom belongings.

We are also ensuring that student services transition seamlessly to the new campus. All special education, speech, counseling and related services will continue without interruption. Before and after school programs, including Kids Club and Youth Enrichment classes, will also be available.

Transportation

Kyrene’s Transportation team is developing bus routes to provide Mirada students transportation to Manitas. Here’s what we can share today:

• Current Bus Riders: All existing Mirada bus routes will be rerouted, and students on those routes will automatically be picked up and transported to Manitas. No action is required.

• Current Walkers & Parent Drop-offs: If you live within the walking boundary for Mirada but now need assistance getting to Manitas, a bus stop option will be available near the Mirada campus to transport students to and from Manitas.

• Manitas Walking Boundary: Please note that students who live within the walking boundary for Manitas will not be provided bus transportation. Buses will resume for these students when the Mirada campus reopens.

Important Reminder: For families with students in Kindergarten or 1st grade, a parent or guardian must be physically present at the bus stop for afternoon drop-off.

What's Next? The Transportation team is finalizing the exact routing schedules. Personalized messages containing your student's specific bus stop locations and pick-up/drop-off times will be sent directly to families this Friday, July 10.
