Back to School Information

The first day of school is Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

The first day of school is a FULL day, not an early release day.

The first day of the 2026-27 school year is almost here, and we're excited to welcome students and families back to Kyrene! This message includes important reminders, resources, and links to help ensure a smooth start to the school year.

ParentVUE/StudentVUE

All Kyrene parents and guardians have a ParentVUE account, and all Kyrene students have a StudentVUE account. Parents can also use the portal to obtain student attendance information, grades, and important documents. In upper grade levels, students use StudentVUE to access assignments and schedules. Important! Later this month, parents will receive an email asking you to log in to ParentVUE to verify your emergency contact information and acknowledge several important annual forms.

Meet the teacher is Monday, July 20. Middle schools 1-4 p.m., Elementary schools 5-6:30 p.m.

Meet the Teacher

Kyrene’s annual Meet the Teacher events give families an opportunity to get acquainted with your individual schools. All schools will hold Meet the Teacher events on Monday, July 20.

Supply Lists

Basic grade-level supply lists are available online. This list is a guideline only and may not reflect the needs of every classroom or every school. Schools will share more information on websites, via email or during Meet the Teacher events

Communications

Families will receive a school newsletter on a regular basis, which will highlight important events, dates, activities, and achievements. Most communication will be digital and will be sent to the primary email and phone number on file.

Parents and guardians do not need to sign up for communications. You will automatically receive emails, text messages and phone calls.

Download Our New App

Kyrene has a new mobile app to keep you connected to both your school and the district. Stay updated on events, student stories and important announcements. Families can access multiple school feeds from a single app, and the app is available to anyone! That means extended family members and caregivers can stay in the loop as well.

The Kyrene app is free to download from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.

Bus Stops and Routes

Kyrene is proud to provide transportation for students in an environment that is safe, courteous, and on time.

UPDATE:

On July 10, preliminary bus routes for the 2026-27 school year will be released. Please note that while the bus stop locationsand route colors are accurate, the scheduled pickup and drop-off times are preliminary.

Our drivers will run their routes on Monday to validate travel times under real-world conditions. Updated and more accurate route times will be available beginning July 21.

Because our routing software does not account for real-life traffic conditions, the initial times may vary slightly from the actual travel times. While the published times should be close, they may not be exact until the routes have been verified.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to ensure accurate transportation information for students and families.

Important! Even if your child has ridden the bus in the past, please check the online transportation portal to verify eligibility and bus stop locations!

Download the Stopfinder App!

Stopfinder is an easy-to-use, all-in-one app that provides accurate information about bus routes and locations. You can track your child’s bus, set up alerts for bus arrivals and departures, and communicate directly with the Kyrene Transportation team.

Payment Portal

Kyrene has a convenient payment portal for parents to pay for everything from school meals to athletics and field trips. The InTouch payment portal provides parents with digital receipts for all transactions including tax credits. Register once and use the portal all year. Note! payments for Athletics, Preschool, Kids Club and After Hours are made through Community Education.

School Meals

Kyrene schools offer nutritious meals at a low cost. Families seeking reduced-price or free meals must submit a new application annually at kyrene.org/foodservices. Kyrene uses LinqConnect for checking meal account balances and adding funds to student accounts. Payments for meals can be made through either the InTouch or LinqConnect payment portals. Cash and checks are also accepted at school sites.

AZ Healthy Schools Act

Important changes for the 2026-27 school year!

Arizona's new Healthy Schools Act changes laws governing food in schools, to help kids stay healthy. The law identifies 11 banned ingredients, and schools participating in federal meal programs cannot serve or sell foods with any of the ingredients. Additionally, food brought to campus during the school day must not contain any of the banned ingredients. Important! These new rules do not apply to parents packing their child’s individual lunch or snacks. You can still pack any lunches, snacks, or treats for your individual child. For a full list of banned ingredients, answers to frequently asked questions, and additional information, visit kyrene.org/healthyschools.

Kids Club and After Hours

Secure your child's spot in our award-winning before and after school programs! We still have spots available in Kids Club (elementary) and After Hours (middle school), but space is limited. Register today! Both programs provide a safe, supportive, and engaging environment with caring staff, homework time, and fun activities. Additional information is available on the Community Education web page.

Attendance Matters

Consistent attendance is critical for academic success. To help families track attendance, Kyrene schools will send notices when a student reaches 4, 8 and 13 absences. If a student exceeds 18 absences, their absences are considered excessive, and a more formal letter will be sent. It is however, our goal to partner with families before that happens.

Kyrene has a webpage with resources to maintain good attendance habits, including our “Too Sick for School” guide to help determine when to keep students home. We encourage you to monitor your child's attendance regularly and to reach out to your school principal if you need any assistance or support.

Don't Miss a Thing!

Safety and Security

Kyrene provides a safe environment for teaching and learning through continual training, secure facilities, and a comprehensive Emergency Operations Plan (EOP). The EOP encompasses school drills, site security teams, digital threat monitoring, and security features to prevent access to school buildings. Visit kyrene.org/safe for an overview of the infrastructure, personnel, operations, communications and partnerships that enhance campus security.

Speak Up Kyrene!

Kyrene offers 24-7 safety and security with our anonymous reporting system, Speak Up Kyrene. Speak Up Kyrene allows students, staff, families and community members to confidentially report safety issues as well as mental health concerns, around the clock. Reports can include bullying, substance abuse, thoughts of self-harm, weapons or other threats to campus. Users are able to submit tips online, via phone or by text message 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. The system, managed in partnership with Sandy Hook Promise and Navigate360 and is designed to strengthen both after-hours response and student well-being.
