Preschool Online Handbook

Provide the following items, labeled with your child’s first and last name:

• Change of clothing in a labeled bag. Please include socks and underwear

• Jackets, sweaters, hats, etc.

• Backpack
• Sunscreen (You may also apply sunscreen to your child before dropping them off)
• Water Bottle
• Lunch and Breakfast (if applicable)
• Napping Materials (Full day options only):
  • Required (per Department of Health Services' regulations): Sheet (crib-size fitted) 
  • Optional: Blanket and small pillow
  • Each Friday, please take your child’s blanket and sheet home, launder it, and return it on Monday

Meet the Teacher

Join us at the Meet the Teacher event before the school year begins.

Starting later in the year? Set up a time to meet the classroom staff and explore the program before your student's first day.

To help your child have a successful day, please:

• Provide simple clothing that will help your student feel comfortable, relaxed, and free to move. Please choose clothing that your student can easily put on and take off independently

• Provide shoes with soft soles to enable your student to effectively participate in activities that develop coordination

• Label backpacks and personal belongings with your student's first and last name. Kyrene is not responsible for personal items that are lost, stolen, damaged, or destroyed. Our preschool programs provide a wide variety of toys, games, and activities for students to enjoy each day. To help keep our classrooms organized and focused on shared materials, we ask that toys, games, and other personal items from home remain at home unless requested by staff for a special activity or event.

• Get ready to say goodbye, and prepare for tears. This is nothing new for our staff and they are prepared to help make the transition easier every day. You can help by talking to your student in advance and getting them excited about going to school

Toileting

• Students must demonstrate self-sufficient toileting skills defined as:

  • Recognizing when they need to use the restroom
  • Removing any necessary clothing (unbuttoning, unzipping, etc.)
  • Getting on and off the toilet and maintaining balance
  • Cleaning themselves when done
  • Redressing themselves
  • Washing their hands with soap and water
• Reasonable accommodations will be made for students with disabilities or who have an adaptive/self-help need.

Snacks are provided twice per day to children registered for full-day Preschool programs, and once per day for children attending half days. Please provide a non-perishable breakfast and lunch (unfortunately, refrigerators and microwaves are not available).

Breakfast and lunches may be purchased through the school cafeteria online using your student 's ID number. Your student's ID number can be found on the homepage of your ParentVue account.

View Behavior Expectations

Each classroom has a parent information board that includes items such as lesson/activity plans, snack menus, and emergency procedures. Teaching teams communicate regularly with families through a variety of methods and also provide their email addresses and classroom phone numbers.

Transportation

Students who qualify for special education services may receive specialized transportation to and from school as outlined in their Individualized Education Program (IEP). Transportation for all other students is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to and from the program site.

Field Trips

Preschool programs may also participate in on-site field trips. Written permission from a parent is required for each child to participate in field trips. Written permission must be received prior to the event.

Conferences

Parent Teacher Conferences to discuss your child's progress and growth are available during the conference window (Fall and Spring).  Our preschool programs use the Arizona Early Learning Standards to guide the skills we teach in our classrooms. This document is also referred to when writing Individual Education Program goals for students with disabilities. 

Creative Curriculum

Creative Curriculum is a comprehensive curriculum that delivers learning in an integrated manner to address all domains of development. These domains include oral language, literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, art and physical development. Lessons and concepts are taught through intentional play experiences and teacher led activities.

As required by law, every child who qualifies for special education services, who is placed in our program will have an Individual Education Program (IEP). The IEP is written collaboratively by parents and the preschool staff. The IEP contains important educational information including goals that are reviewed in writing semi-annually, and the IEP is revised annually if the child continues to qualify for placement in the program.

Department of Health Services Inspection Reports

Inspection Reports are available onsite at each of our Preschool locations.  The specific location on the inspection reports can be found posted at each site.

Liability Insurance

Per the Department of Health Services' regulation R9-5-308, documentation of our liability insurance coverage is available for review at each Preschool program.
