Behavior Intervention Specialists
A Behavior Intervention Teacher (BIT) Specialist provides leadership and direction at the school level to design, coordinate, implement and evaluate comprehensive behavior support programs and collaborates with general and special education teachers to design, implement and monitor progress of behavioral management programs for individual students.
Their goal is to provide support and assist teachers in developing class-wide systems of reinforcement to promote a healthy class environment and effective planning, organization and implementation of strategies for optimum behavior management.
Services Provided
Schoolwide Behavior Support Programs
- Consult with administrators, teachers and parents in the development and implementation of inclusive strategies
- Facilitate team meetings to design Behavior Support Plans, address classroom organization and effective interventions and strategies for classroom teachers
- Develop and present professional development and ongoing support to classroom teachers in the writing and implementation of behavioral support plans
- Provide training in data collection, adapting curriculum, positive behavior supports and strategies and in classroom and individual behavior management/skills
- Assist other school professionals with student crisis intervention.
- Plan and confer with classroom teachers, as requested, concerning behavioral and/or social problems affecting students.
- Support and provide guidance for individual school’s Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) teams administering the SET (School Evaluation Tool) and BoQ (Benchmark of Quality) as well as working with the PBIS teams on Action Plans
Student Behavior Management Program
- Promote highly specialized positive behavior interventions for at risk and targeted students
- Monitors, observes and reports behavior of students
- Assists in implementing specialized student plans such as IEP, BSP, and 504’s.
- Serve as a team member in the identification and providing diversified strategies and activities for targeted students with social/behavioral problems.
- Assist in the development of Individual Intervention for students.
- Provide individual and group support to the students on a regular basis to include socialization activities (e.g., social skills training, anger management, etc.).
- Develop and conduct in-service activities regarding techniques for remediation of behavioral, social or personal problems of students.
- Support and/or facilitate team meetings with identified students for the purpose of conducting Functional Behavioral Assessments
