About Mr. Scott Maxwell
Before joining Kyrene Middle School this year, Mr. Maxwell served as the Director of School Effectiveness for the Kyrene School District for two years. During that time, he managed and supported the operation of a wide variety of initiatives and programs for Kyrene, including Middle School Design, AVID, IB, athletics, and the school safety grant.
Mr. Maxwell began his career in education as a social studies teacher and later served three years as a high school principal before joining the Arizona Department of Education. He was also an instructor for a Chinese university and a researcher at a South African think tank. He draws on these global professional experiences to lead the dynamic programming at KMS.
Mr. Maxwell earned a B.A. in history from St. Michael’s College and an M.A in international policy from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies, as well as a second master’s degree in special education. Additionally, he studied Mandarin at Beijing Normal University and African studies at the University of Stellenbosch. He was born and raised in the Boston, Massachusetts area but now happily resides in Phoenix with his wife and two young daughters.
