    Athletics Update (5/20/21)

Based on updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Kyrene has determined face coverings will be optional outside for baseball and track when social distance is maintained to the greatest extent possible.

Coaches, athletes, and spectators will still be required to follow the girls’ basketball sport modifications since it is an inside sport. There will continue to be limits on the number of spectators per student athlete and face coverings are required.  When not competing, athletes will still wear a face covering on the bench, on the bus, and inside the school. Thank you for your diligence in following all safety protocols as outlined on www.kyrene.org/safestrong. The health and safety of staff, athletes, and community are our highest priority.

    Athletics Update (3/26/21)

We are very excited to announce that competitions will resume March 24.  After careful review of the updated guidance from the Maricopa Department of Public Health, we feel confident in offering cross country, softball, boys’ basketball and cheer with the specific modifications outlined on our Safe Return to Athletics page

Schedules are posted on the District and School Site Athletics web pages.  Cross Country will finish out their season with two regular meets and the Conference Meet on April 8 at Kyrene del Pueblo Middle School. The other sports will end around the middle of April.

Payments have already been collected for cross country.  Dues for the other sports have been modified to half of a season, so rates will be half the cost (boys basketball-$75, softball-$75 and cheer $45). All athletes are required to pay before participating in competition. If you still need to make your payment, please follow this link and login to your account to complete payment.

Please contact your school site Athletics Department for specific practices, schedules and payment information.

Per our safety guidelines all spectators are required to wear a mask and to follow our 6-foot social distance requirements for all indoor and outdoor events.  For indoor events only (Boys Basketball and Cheer) every athlete will be given 4 spectator passes as an entry to attend a game. The spectator will need this pass to enter the gym.

For additional information please contact your school site Athletics Department. We hope we can expand the number of spectators for future indoor events if community spread continues to decrease.

We will continue to monitor our mitigation strategies and offer our athletics programs in accordance with our Safe Return to Athletics Plan. Our safety of staff, student athletes and community are our highest priority.

For the 2020-2021 school year, KTA will continue to offer a number of athletic teams on campus: Boys Basketball, Cheer, Cross Country, and Girls Basketball. Because of limitations on equipment, the size of our KTA field areas, etc., KTA students will continue to have the opportunity to register for Aprende’s Track & Field team (non-cut sport-spring).  In addition, KTA students are encouraged to try-out for the following cut sports: Girls Soccer (winter), Softball (winter), and Boys Baseball (spring). The Kyrene School District will provide transportation from KTA to Aprende for afternoon practices. All transportation to away games will be provided by the Kyrene School District. Parents must provide on-time transportation home from all home and away games.

Students interested in the Kyrene Athletic Program will need to adhere to the same expectations for sports physicals, fees, and try-outs as the other middle schools.

KTA will hold its own sports for the following sports:

    Fall:  Cancelled

Winter: Cheer (cut sport) and Boys Basketball (cut sport) Cross Country (non-cut sport)

    Spring: Girls Basketball (cut sport)

KTA Students may participate with Aprende for the 2020/2021 school year and transportation will be provided for the following sports:

    Fall:  Cancelled

Winter: Wrestling (non cut) Postponed due to this being a high-risk sport, Girls Soccer (cut sport) and Girls Softball (cut sport)

Spring: Track and Field (non-cut sport) and Boys Baseball (cut sport)
