COME AND FIND OUT WHAT IT IS ABOUT!!
WHAT: Bulldog Bells, a select Extra Curricular Handbell performance choir. Handbells are a beautiful team based instrument that anyone can learn to play. Students will learn technique, music reading, music theory, teamwork, self-confidence and excellent musicianship. Bells will play classical, pop, show tunes and even some rock and roll! It’s amazing, unique and fun!
Bulldog Bells will be a school and community performance group. Performances will be scheduled throughout the year and parents will be notified as far in advance as possible.
WHO: Up to thirty 6th, 7th or 8th Grade Students. You do NOT have to read music to join this group. Ringers from last year have first priority to re-join. We need new ringers as well!
WHEN: Tuesdays and Thursday before school. Students wear gloves to protect the bells, and do not share materials or music. Wearing masks is required during the small group rehearsals and probably for performances for the near future. Masks are provided or students may wear thier own.
FEE: $50 per semester. This covers the cost of gloves, music and supplies. There is scholarship money available to cover the Bells fee. (Please send a short email to request the scholarship.)
PERFORMANCES: In the past there have been many wonderful opportunities, including the Desert Botanical Gardens Luminaria and other Community Festivals and Events, School Events and Disneyland. Plus a lot more – we are a PMS “community show’ group! We do not know at this time when communtiy performances might resume.
ATTENDANCE and ABSENCES: Handbells are a unique ensemble. Each ringer is a unique, valuable member of the team. Each player is responsible for specific notes. Each bell is important to the music! Missing players make the music not work! If a student is absent more than three times, they may be moved to a substitute ringer position or may be removed from the choir.
