Hello! Yá'át'ééh! Da'anzho! Hau! Lios em chaniavu! Ha'u”! Shap kaech!

I hope I have included a greeting for every one of you.

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year.  This has been a rough spring and summer of social distancing and losses.  We want to start the new year by getting to know each other, but still need to remain safe.  In the past, the Native American Club at Aprende would meet after school to share snacks, stories, and learn together.  This year we will start off with some Zoom meetings in the first quarter and find new ways to connect until we are able to meet again as a group in person.

For those of you that do not know me, I am the Native American Club Leader and Liaison for all Native American students at Aprende.  I am Lakota Sioux on my father’s side from the Standing Rock Reservation.  Yes, I am a long way from home.  I make my home now with you all at Aprende and hope to support you when needed.  I can attend academic or discipline meetings with you and/or your family, help you to find school supports, and direct you to community services you may need.  Please do not hesitate to reach out anytime.  I’m here for you.

Email me with your questions, concerns, or just to say hello – in English or your Native language.  I’m always eager to learn about you.  I hope to hear from you soon!

The Aprende Native American Club is open to all Kyrene Native American families.

Mrs. Klett, campus club leader,  can be reached at tklett@kyrene.org for more information.

We encourage any new Native American students on the Aprende campus to attend our zoom meetings and make some friends.

Meetings will be virtual until further notice.  Students should watch their school email for information.

We have a great partnership with Phoenix Indian Center and hope to have a guest speaker from there joining our students the Living in Two Worlds Curriculum.

Please reach out if you need anything.  Let's make this a great year!
