About the Assistant PrincipalMy name is Scott Shelberg and I am beginning my 32nd year in Kyrene. After graduating from ASU I started my career as a special education resource teacher at Niños. After seven years I took a position at the district office as a “jack of all trades” in the all encompassing department of Curriculum/ Instruction/ Assessment/ Staff Development and Instructional Technology. Two years later I took the opportunity to become a school-based leader working closely with students as the Assistant Principal at las Lomas. My graduate work in Education Leadership was completed through NAU (Go Lumberjacks!). My other experiences have involved me assisting principals at Niños, Norte, Waggoner, and Colina, as well as coordinating Title 1 programs across the district. Kyrene has been a wonderful community to work and raise my family in. My wife of 30 years is Marcia. She worked as a kindergarten and first grade teacher in Kyrene for 15 years before taking a job at a small Christian school in Chandler, Hope Christian Academy. My wife and I are both Arizona natives. We actually attended the same elementary and high school in Scottsdale. We have two boys, Taylor and Wesley, who make us both very proud. Taylor is 25, and became married in June. He is an event planner at Cal Baptist University in Riverside, CA. Wes is 21, and beginning his Junior year studying construction management. Our whole family loves camping and fishing up in the White Mountains. Sierra is such a wonderful school with a very involved community. We partner together to realize our Sierra's Mission.
