If you make the unconditional commitment to reach your most important goals, if the strength of your decision is sufficient, you will find the way and the power to achieve your goals.” ~ Robert Conklin

    Dear Cerritos Community!

My career in education has led me through several experiences and opportunities over the course of more than 25 years. I spent 13 years as an elementary classroom teacher from kindergarten through fifth grade. My other experiences also include assistant principal, Teacher Specialist for the district, new teacher mentor trainer and I have taught several professional development courses. I have experience as an instructor in the Northern Arizona University Master’s in Education program and facilitated several classes among which some include are: Marzano Teacher Evaluation, Fluency in Reading, Student Engagement Strategies, New Teacher Orientation, and Assessment Development.

I am a life-long learner. I hold a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Arizona State University, a Master’s in Elementary Curriculum and Instruction from Northern Arizona University and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. I continually seek new learning opportunities.

As principal of Cerritos, a Leadership Academy elementary school, we launched the first “Leader in Me” process for the Kyrene school district in 2009. Together we have created the Cerritos Leadership Academy standards which were based upon the 7 Habits of Happy Kids by Sean Covey and leadership for children. Our staff and students have learned the guiding principles of the Habits and are committed to embracing them as an entire community. Implementing 21st century leadership skills, discipline referrals have decreased, staff job satisfaction has significantly increased and student achievement is evident through the use of data passports and goal setting. Every student has a leadership role at Cerritos.

I believe in the power of a strength-based philosophy.  One quote from Clifton and Harter that I hold is, “Individuals gain more when they build on their talents, than when they make comparable efforts to improve their areas of weakness.”  I have witnessed the amazing contributions individuals can make in an organization when they are given the opportunity to use their personal passion each day and develop their personal and professional leadership skills.

I am honored to be the principal at Cerritos, A Leadership Academy. We are Leaders of today inspiring leaders of tomorrow.”
