Meet the Principal
It has truly been my honor and privilege to serve as the principal of Kyrene de la Esperanza since the fall of 2004. Since my tenure as principal, I am proud to say that Esperanza has earned an “Excelling” label and an “A” rating by the Arizona Department of Education. Recently, on April 23, 2012, Kyrene de la Esperanza received the A+ School of Excellence™ distinction awarded by the Arizona Educational Foundation. The application process was a huge endeavor, one that required the collective effort of our entire school community! It united everyone -- students, parents, and community members - in a profound way! The result was an enormous sense of pride and accomplishment.
As an ongoing learner, I have earned multiple degrees: a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology, a Master’s in Counseling, a Master’s in Organizational Management, and a Doctorate in Education Administration. For the past 27 years, I have worked extensively in the fields of education, prevention, and behavioral health, 17 of which have been in the Kyrene School District.
Throughout my varied professional roles, I have always had a passion for equity, and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of children and their families. I became a school administrator because I believe all children have a right to a quality education and the opportunity to reach their highest potential. It is my personal and professional goal, and the mission of Kyrene de la Esperanza, to ensure that we provide a “positive and engaging learning environment that promotes student achievement and inspires success in every student.”
My husband Mike and I are the proud parents of two teenagers, Josh and Mikayla. A friend of mine once told me that when you become a parent, you begin to mark the passing of time by the developmental milestones of your children….their first steps, their first words, their first days of school, the first time they read, and so forth. And, then suddenly, in the blink of an eye, your children have grown and blossomed into extraordinary young adults. It seems like just yesterday that my children first entered elementary school! It's hard to believe that in just two years, they will both be in college!
Time is so very precious! I urge you to take the time to enjoy every minute of your child’s elementary educational experience. Together, as partners, we can create a strong foundation that will help prepare our students for today's challenges and future educational success!
