A new grading policy for written assignments in the Kyrene School District employs an eight-point scale. When the grade goes into the gradebook as a 0, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5 or 4, the gradebook will automatically adjust this scale to a percentage grade. A grade of a 4 shows that the student went well above and beyond the requirements of the assignment; a 0 shows that the student did not turn in the work but s/he will receive a score of 50%. Most students will achieve between a 1 and a 3 for written assignments. Students only in extreme circumstances will achieve a 4; this grade is not given lightly. Some writing assignments will be graded with the old, familiar grading system of the 6-point rubric; other writing assignments will have a specific rubric written for that particuar assignment. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions on this.
Posting of Student Grades
Grades will be posted in the Parent Portal regularly. Please check student grades there on a regular basis. Use the parent/student portal to check for assignment due dates. Some assignments take several days to grade so please be patient with the posting of grades. Thank you for your understanding.
