    About Mrs. Rooder
    purple line

I am a near native of Arizona. I got my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Music from Whittier College in California. My original career goal was to become a music
therapist, but my interest changed to teaching during my senior year. Therefore, I returned to Arizona and attended
ASU full time for 18 months to obtain my teaching certificate in Elementary Education.
The following fall I was offered my first teaching job in Kyrene as a 6th grade teacher at Kyrene de los Ninos. I taught 6th grade for three years, and then switched to 4th grade for another three
years. I transferred to Monte Vista when it was first opened. I taught 5th grade for three years and 4th grade for one year. While at Monte Vista, I attended night school to obtain my Master’s degree from NAU in Elementary Curriculum and Instruction. I transferred to Akimel a Al Middle School in 1993 where I taught 6th grade Math, Science and PE/Health. I resigned from the district the following year to stay home with my brand new daughter, Addie, who is now a senior at Corona.

During the next seven years, I enjoyed caring for children in my home and becoming active in several music activities with my church. I conducted a children’s choir, participated in a hand bell ensemble, sang in the choir, played organ and clarinet in the church orchestra, lead the music for vacation bible school and co-created a summer music camp. I also began teaching private piano lessons during this time period.

When my daughter was entering first grade, I returned to the Kyrene district as a part time 5th grade teacher at Mariposa. After five years I decided to switch to teaching music full time. I was fortunate to be able to remain at Mariposa.

I continue to play organ at my church at least once per month and I continue to maintain a small private piano studio.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, needlework, watching movies, cooking, playing games, doing puzzles and spending time with my family. I also enjoy playing several other musical instruments besides organ and piano including clarinet, violin, flute, guitar, ukulele and recorder.
