About The Teacher
I have been a Music Specialist in the Kyrene School District since 2007 and am the director of the Esperanza Mallet Band, which performs at various community and school events.
I became a teacher because of an amazing music teacher, Dr. Kennedy, who inspired a love of music in me. I knew I wanted to be a music teacher and pass on my passion of music to my students. Prior to teaching here, I taught music through the Teacher for America program which brought me to Arizona. I received my doctorate in music from State University of New York at Stony Brook. I also hold degrees in music performance from California State University, Sacramento. I am married to a music teacher, who I met on my first day in Marching Band. I have two children, both are at Desert Vista this year. On the weekends you might run into me and my family running errands around town or hiking a trail, I love working and living in the same community.
Our music room is filled with fun and excitement. I employ an active music curriculum where children learn music by doing music. Your child will be singing, moving, and playing instruments. I look forward to an exciting year filled with new experiences!
