      Dear Parents,

Welcome to kindergarten at Esperanza! I am so excited to have your child in my classroom this year. I am looking forward to getting to know you and your child throughout the school year!

I would like to take a moment to let you know a little bit about my teaching philosophy and myself. I was born in Springfield, Minnesota, but moved to Arizona when I was four years old.  After graduating high school, I went to Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona and majored in elementary education. After receiving my degree, I chose to come to the Phoenix area to begin my teaching career.  That is when I found Esperanza and began my teaching career!

I have a Bachelor’s Degree from Northern Arizona University in elementary education, with a content emphasis in early childhood. I also received a Master’s Degree in elementary education from Northern Arizona University in December of 2003. This is currently my 21st year of teaching, which have all been in kindergarten.  I just love kindergarten and all the excitement of learning and exploring that goes on!

My husband and I have two beautiful daughters, Aubrey and Macey.  Aubrey is ten years old and Macey is seven years old. We are a busy family, but absolutely love it!  We also have two cats named Bogey and Felix. In my free time I love watching movies, working on home improvement projects, crafts, shopping, watching sports, and of course spending time with my family.

As a teacher, my philosophy is fairly simple:
I believe that learning is a process that takes place over time and occurs in many different ways and styles. Helping students become problem solvers and lifelong learners is one of my important goals as a teacher, as well as to provide a secure environment where all children are eager to learn and feel comfortable taking risks. Your child’s progress and development will be monitored continuously. I will also show the children how to make positive choices throughout the year and will be consistent and fair in behavior expectations. I believe that learning should be active, pleasant, fun, and productive.
