This will be my 27th year teaching K-5 general music in the Kyrene School District. I received my Bachelor of Music degree in Choral-General Music from Arizona State University in 1994 and my Master of Music degree in General Music Education, also from ASU, in 2002. I have completed Levels I-II-III Orff Schulwerk Certification, became an instructor for those courses at ASU, and have also completed Levels I-II Kodály Certification. My main instruments are voice and piano and I sing with the Sonoran Desert Chorale in the east valley. I have had the opportunity to travel to Ireland, Scotland, Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic on tour to perform with this amazing group and we also performed back-up for Michael Crawford, the original Phantom of the Opera, during a performance at the Mesa Arts Center. Most recently I was selected to be one of the featured soloists on our CD publication, A Sonoran Desert Chorale Christmas. Truly one of the highlights of my performing career!

My husband and I live in Ahwatukee and are both native Arizonans. We share our home with our twin girls who will be sixth graders at Altadeña, and two huge and lovable Rottweilers. I love to sing and play the piano, read books, and spend time with my family and friends. My favorite character is Winnie-the-Pooh and I love anything and everything Disney.

I am very excited for another year of music learning!  If you have any questions or would like to become more involved in the Music program, please contact me at jkilga@kyrene.org or the phone number listed on the Welcome page.
