About The Teacher
The Lion’s Den Learning Community
Dear Parents and Students,
I would like to welcome each of my students and their families to our second grade learning community! I believe learning is a journey and so look forward to an exciting year with many meaningful learning experiences that will enrich the lives of students.
I was born and grew up in Iowa and moved to Arizona in 1985. My husband, Lyle, is an assistant principal and athletic director at Altadena Middle School. We are the very proud parents of three wonderful children. Cory is a 2009 graduate of Desert Vista High School, attended ASU, an EMT/fireman for the Guadalupe Fire Department, and just recently became a fulltime fire fighter. He is married to Morgan, a resident doctor at Mayo Clinic. They are expecting their first baby in mid August. Our daughter, Carrie is a 2010 graduate of Desert Vista and the University of Oklahoma where she majored in nursing and was a member of the women’s soccer team (unfortunately she had to medical retire from the sport she loved due to a head injury she sustained in Spain while playing on the Women's U-18 National Team her senior year in high school). She is currently a nurse at a surgical center in Oklahoma city. Our youngest son, Conner is a graduate of Desert Vista and A.S.U. where he majored in Construction Management. He is currently employed at Sundt Construction Co. as a project manager and leaving in Texas. Our family loves all sports and all three of our children have been involved in sports at both the club and high school level. In my free time I enjoy golfing and spending time with my family and friends and of course, shopping. Our family also enjoys going back home to Iowa each year to spend time with family, and our kids loved spending time on the farm with their favorite Uncle Bob.
From the time I was a child, I knew I wanted to be a teacher as I played school in my parent’s basement with my little sisters. I always loved school, learning new things, using my mind creatively, working with young children, and being part of a community of learners.
I am now in my 35th year of teaching. I also worked a few years in the private sector in the banking industry as a trainer and with Junior Achievement. I completed a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Economics from Simpson College in Iowa. When my husband and I moved to Arizona, I began my post-graduate courses and earned my Master of Education degree from Northern Arizona University.
I have been a teacher at Monte Vista since it opened in 1989. I have had so many wonderful experiences with my students over the years. We truly are a community of learners who enjoy learning and working together.
Thank you for being part of our Lion's Den Learning Community.
