    Meet Mrs. Ryan
Welcome to 6th Grade Science with Mrs. Ryan!

I would like to welcome each of my students and their families to our learning community!  I look forward to an exciting year ahead jam-packed with learning experiences!

     About Mrs. Ryan

I was born in India, then moved to Canada when I was two-months-old, where I spent my childhood, did my education and started teaching high school.  I moved to Phoenix when I got married thirty-three years ago, and have yet to miss Canada’s snow!

My husband, Arun, is an engineer at Arrow Electronics. . We have three children, all former Akimel A-al Rattlers!  Our son studied Computer Science at ASU and is a software developer at General Motors.  Our older daughter did a Master's degree at NAU, and is now an academic advisor at ASU.  Our younger daughter is a student teacher for NAU's Bachelor of Music Education program, soon to be a certified music teacher!  In my free time, I enjoy playing the banjo and guitar, singing in the Tempe Community Chorus, reading, sewing, making quilts and huffing and puffing through exercise videos.  (Okay, I don't enjoy that last one, but I do it anyway!  :)  )

My education includes a Bachelor of Science in Physics, a Bachelor of Education in Secondary Education, and a Master of Education in Counseling.  I taught high school physics, math and general science for five years before becoming a stay-at-home mom for eleven years.   Volunteering in my children's classrooms inspired me to move to elementary education when I returned to teaching.   I thoroughly enjoyed teaching 2nd Grade for ten years at Kyrene de la Sierra Elementary School!  Though it was hard to leave, I also felt it was time to explore new horizons. I've enjoyed the last six years at Akimel A-al and am ready for the seventh!
Now entering my twentiy-fourth year of teaching, I look forward to a year of inquiry and exploration in 6th Grade Science and getting to know all of my students for the unique, talented individuals that they are!
