About The Teacher
My name is Jennifer Pooler and 2020-2021 is my 20th year teaching art in the Kyrene School District. I began oil painting lessons in elementary school and art has been my passion ever since. I have taken many art classes and I am always looking for ways to learn new techniques. Working with clay is one of my favorites!
My father was in the Air Force while I was young, so we moved around a bit before settling down. I was born in Michigan, moved to Germany where I attended kindergarten, and then settled in Simi Valley, California. I attended Moorpark Community College and began my college art education. After the 1994 Northridge earthquake we decided that living where the ground shakes wasn't any fun! I then moved to Gaithersburg, Maryland where I began working at an after-school program in an elementary school. I became a kindergarten teacher's aide during the school day and also had my own group of kindergarteners in the after-school program. One of my favorite activities to do with my students was my art lessons. I loved it so much that I decided that I wanted to teach art to children. After a year in Maryland, I decided to attend Arizona State University to complete my Bachelor's in Art Education and then get my teaching certificate. After graduating from ASU I started teaching at Paloma Elementary in 2001.
I live in Chandler with my family and we love to travel, go bike riding, hiking, and watch movies together. Reading is a passion and if I am home then I am probably reading a book on my Kindle. I am a runner and enjoy running the occasional road race. I also have 1 cat and 2 dogs.
In the summer I like to keep busy and for many years taught art classes for Scottsdale Center for the Arts. Since 2014, each summer I have worked for Pearson Assessment Center as a scorer assessing National Board Portfolio entries.
In 2013 I achieved my National Board Certification in Early and Middle Childhood Art. In 2021 I got my Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Grand Canyon University.
