Welcome! I am excited to be teaching Science this year! Please use this website to have up-to-date information on curriculum and helpful links for parents and students to ensure student success here at Kyrene Middle School.
During my first career in the finance industry, and after the birth of my daughter, I did some soul searching and realized that my true calling was to be a teacher. So, I returned to school to pursue a degree in teaching. I graduated in May 2019 from Arizona State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education (STEM) with an emphasis in Middle School Science. I also have an Environmental Education Certificate of Distinction.
As a teacher, I feel it is my duty to share with my students my love of and excitement for learning, and to help instill in them a desire to be life-long learners. I believe that science is extremely important because it helps explain the world around us. Science is everywhere. I hope to reawaken the students’ innate sense of curiosity and wonder about the world around them. I also look to create an environment in my classroom that makes every student feel safe and cared for. It is when students are in a safe and caring environment that they feel comfortable enough to make mistakes and take educational risks, which is how they will grow both mentally and emotionally to be healthy-minded, contributing adults in society.
I am originally from New York, and I have one daughter starting 1st grade this year right next door at C.I. Waggoner. I also have two cats named Sparky and Gunny. When I am not teaching I enjoy spending time with my family. We enjoy traveling, playing games, and just spending time together in general.
Each student is very important to me, and I want them to do their very best. If there is anything that I can do to help them succeed, please do not hesitate to contact me. I can be reached by e-mail at ahoyman@kyrene.org.
