•      Hello to my New 7th & 8th Grade Science Students & Parents!!

My name is Mr. Calamia, and this is the beginning of my 26th year in education. I have taught every grade level over those years, and have coached almost every middle school and high school sport. My journey has afforded me the privilege and honor of teaching over 3,000 students, and to have developed and coached over 2,500 scholarly student athletes. I have always felt most at home teaching middle school science, as well as GATE. I am a former scholarship Division I Ice Hockey Goaltender at UMASS-Lowell, and have completed two Masters programs, one in Elementary Education at San Jose State University where I was a playing-coach of the University's ice hockey team, and another MEd. in Educational Leadership at ASU where I completed my Administration Credential in Educational Leadership, while receiving Summa Cum Laude Honors in both Masters Programs. I'm currently finishing my third Masters in Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis in Gifted Education at ASU.

I have been an Athletic Director in two other school districts, and was part of the coaching staffs of two NHL teams, the San Jose Sharks and the Phoenix Coyotes, coaching and directing Youth and Adult Development Programs. I have also been a Trainer of Coaches for USA Hockey and coached in USA Lacrosse for youth team programs. I am a NYC Marathon Finisher in 2014, and I also hold a US Patent, as I developed a safety device for skiers and snowboarders that interfaces with ski lifts at ski resorts. In the past I was the former Feature Writer, and Food & Travel Critic for NorthValley Magazine, a magazine that my family started back in 2007. This allowed me to be a Media Member of the James Beard Culinary Association. I have been a sports car and luxury car enthusiast for most of my life, and have driven some of the world's fastest and most luxurious cars, such as the Ferrari 812 Superfast, McLaren 650S, Bentley Mulsanne and the brand new Rolls Royce Cullinan SUV, to name a few.

I am very excited to be in the Kyrene SD, and to be here at Altadena Middle School teaching science!! It truly is a passion of mine!! I will be coaching this year as well! I am very enthusiastic about, and looking forward to, the adventure that we all get to take together as we explore the amazing World of Science!!...

    Thank You for checking in!!....
