• Me & Naiya  Mika & Ellie  Groomsmen  Naiya

Welcome! My name is Mr. Laux (pronounced like the “ou” in “ouch” with a hard-sounding “x”) and I am your student’s ELA Resource Teacher for the 2019-2020 school year. This is my 2nd year at Centennial and I sincerely enjoy my time here. I feel privileged for the opportunity to get to know and work with both you and your student throughout this year and believe strongly that supportive environments at home and school that emphasize the well-being of students are essential to success both in and beyond the classroom.

A little background on me: I was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, where I lived for 23 years. I've resided in the East Valley for 14 years and am proud to call Arizona home. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English from Arizona State University, where I am currently studying for my Master’s degree in Special Education. I am very fortunate and proud to have a 13-year-old daughter named Naiya (pronounced “Ny-uh”) who is an 8th grade middle school student. Together, we enjoy camping, sports, music, movies, eating out, and spending as much time as possible with family and friends. Personally, I also enjoy hiking/backpacking, traveling, baseball, eating at new restaurants, reading, exploring Arizona, and my borderline unhealthy level of investment in the Seattle Seahawks.

I am excited for this year. My goals for your student are simple: that they feel valued, understand and exhibit the importance of hard work, enjoy what they’re doing, treat others well, and give their best effort in whatever they do (only they will truly know that). If I can be of any assistance to you or your family, feel free to contact me by Email: dlaux@kyrene.org, Phone: (480) 541-6508, or make an appointment to speak in person. I appreciate your time and look forward to working with you.
