About the Teacher

  • Mr. McCormick

Welcome to 5th grade and the 2020-2021 school year!

My name is Ryan McCormick and this is my 2nd year of teaching. I was born and raised in southern California, but I moved to Phoenix in 2016 to pursue my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at Grand Canyon University, lopes up! I am certified by the state of Arizona to teach K-8 general education and am completing my gifted education endorsement. I am also currently working towards my Masters degree in Elementary Reading Education from GCU.

I am thrilled to have your child in my class and to have the opportunity to get to know them this year! It is going to be a great year full of growth and learning, especially as we navigate the unknowns of our changing world together. I am excited to work alongside Ms. Kelsey Hamilton with our self-contained gifted departmentalization model. I teach language arts, writing, and social studies to both 4th and 5th grade gifted students and she teaches math, science, and health.

Things have come full circle as the first classroom I ever worked in was in 5th grade at Monte Vista 3 years ago so it is awesome and humbling to come back and be a part of this wonderful school community. I have wanted to teach for as long as I can remember, although I went through a brief phase in high school when I wanted to pursue law. I decided against law because at the time I thought it was too much school, however, here I am back at school! 5th grade was my FAVORITE year of school and my teacher that year was actually the one who inspired me to become a teacher. Here we are over 10 years later!

When I am not working, I am exercising, running (I love 5Ks!), exploring everything Phoenix and the surrounding areas have to offer, or spending time with friends and family. I am a huge sports fan and I am always game to talk anything and everything basketball related. If you really want to get to know me, my 2 favorite sports teams are the LA Clippers (basketball) and Arizona Diamondbacks (baseball).

Go Mountain Lions! Let’s make this your best year yet!
