|About Mrs. Furman
This is my 19th year of teaching at Aprende Middle School; my 24th year teaching overall.
I was born and raised in Phoenix, AZ and graduated from the University of Arizona (go Wildcats!) with a degree in English. Never thinking I would teach, I worked at an educational publishing company in Tucson where I found my passion for teaching. I went back to school for my certification in Secondary Education and began teaching in Gilbert Public Schools before moving to the Kyrene School District. My master's degree is in Secondary Education; I also have my K - 12 Gifted Endorsement.
I was honored to be a 2014 top 10 semi-finalist for the AEF Arizona Teacher of the Year, as well as the 2012 Tempe Diablos Excellence in Education Teacher of the Year for the Kyrene School District.
In my roles at Aprende, I am one of the NJHS advisers, which I have done since I began teaching here. I truly enjoy working with this highly motivated and giving group of students and parents whose work has been recognized as an NJHS 2012 Service Project of the Year! I teach language arts and work with the GATE ELA teachers as a gifted facilitator for the district.
Finally, I teach English as adjunct faculty at Chandler-Gilbert Community College. In my spare time, I enjoy movies, watching endless hours of television, and being with my family. I look forward to sharing my love of literature and written expression with you.
