• Hello!  My name is Mary Axelrod and I would like to warmly welcome your child and family to Centennial Middle School, home of the Sabercats.  I am passionate about teaching and look forward to the opportunity to work with your child and family this school year.

As a reading interventionist, I am fortunate to work with 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students to meet their literacy needs. My passion has always been working with children to ignite a love for reading.  I want to provide children with the tools they need to become proficient readers.

I am a native Arizonan.  I grew up in Tucson and attended the University of Arizona and later transferred to Arizona State University, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education.  Since I am a life-long learner, I went on to receive the following endorsements: Early Childhood, K-12 Reading Specialist, Structured English Immersion, and Middle Grades Language Arts (6-9).  Additionally, I am a Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner.  I have taught pre-kindergarten, first grade, physical education, and was a reading coach that worked with teachers and students in grades K-6.  This is my 19th year teaching and my third year at Centennial Middle School.  I am thrilled to be at a wonderful school with great families and colleagues.

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and being outdoors.  I enjoy running, cycling, traveling, and reading.  I have been married to my husband, Brian, for nineteen years and we have two beautiful children, Ella and Josh.

Thank you for providing me the opportunity to teach your child this year.  I am looking forward to working together to make it a GREAT year! Please feel free to contact me anytime.
