About Ms. Latimer - Aprende P.E.

    Ms. Latimer:

Aprende Middle School  PE Teacher 6th, 7th, 8th
Teaching experience: This is my 26th year of teaching in the Kyrene District. My first 10 years were in  elementary P.E.  at Cielo, Brisas, Colina, Lagos, and  this is my 16th year in Middle school P.E. here at Aprende. I grew up in Casa Grande, yes an AZ native, 3rd daughter of a cotton farmer!. My first year of college was at University of Arizona...GO CATS!, then I married, moved to SLC, Utah and graduated from Univ. of Utah in 1980....GO UTES! I earned my Master's degree in 1995 at NAU-GO LUMBERJACKS!

Activities: Running, biking, swimming, hiking, and skiing: I have participated in many triathlons (30+), 5 marathons (26.2 miles)- the 5th and final marathon was on my 50th birthday, and over 30 half marathons!  My daughter, Shani, has followed in my footsteps... far surpassing me, finishing her first Ironman distance triathlon: 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run in Tempe, 2007 and ran in the NYC marathon in 2010. I am proud to say we have 4 Ironman athletes in our extended family!
Activity keeps me young and healthy, and it is a big part of my life!

My Family: Daughter: Shani (34) graduated from ASU in May 2005, majoring in Finance in the Business Dept. She has been working as a financial analyst for 7 years. She attended Cielo, Aprende, and CDS where she was a cheerleader and dancer. (So, I have been a Kyrene parent for many years!) She had a beautiful wedding in DC  May 2013, married to Tom Boesen, and they had a beautiful little baby boy March 2016 - Jenson!!  Love my new grand baby!   I will be blessed with a little grand daughter in November 2017, and am so pleased they chose to move back to AZ from DC.

Son: Dustin (36) has been a pro roller blader since he was 16 years old. He competed in the X-Games in San Diego, has had many rollerblading skates and wheels made in his name and has been an integral part of the designing aspect in the rollerblade industry. He is considered one of the top 10 rollerbladers in the world and  was inducted in the RollerBlade Hall of Fame in 2009. He has traveled the world over, including Austrailia, Korea, England, Germany, France. (My very famous child!)  Dustin has a beautiful son: Life Nakai Latimer, 12 years old and is in 6th grade at MY School - Aprende! He is a competitive climber and a very good athlete. Love my grandson!

Greg Cameron - Significant person in my life for 12 years and now my fiance. Greg was an air traffic controller for LAX arrivals. He worked in this stressful capacity for 34 years and now is back home in AZ, retired, and now living the golfing dream! We live in the Stellar Airpark where he built his own airplane. What a fun community to live in!

Debbie Gundry – sister: Debbie was a 6th grade Science teacher at Aprende for 18 years and now is enjoying her retirement and grandkids!

Diana Keller – sister: Diana is a Real Estate agent working for Keller Williams. She and her husband are very active with their 8, almost 9 grandkids!

Freddie Enke - brother: Freddie is my younger brother; he is a Physical therapist in Tempe.

Marjorie and Fred Enke-parents: My Mom and Dad, the most wonderful people in my life, my role models, married for 62 years, from Casa Grande. My  Dad passed away  April 2014 and Mom followed him shortly thereafter because of a broken heart in August 2014. We all miss them deeply!! They have always been active, supportive, maintaining a positive attitude. My dad was a pro football player for 7 years,  a 3 sport letterman at U of A, and his dad, my grandfather, was head Basketball and Golf coach for Univ of AZ for 37 years. Yes, I am very proud of my family’s sport heritage.

I mention my family for they are my support system and are a very important part of my life! I value physical activity and I believe that if you enjoy the activity, you will participate more often, thus staying fit for life!
I enjoy teaching PE at Aprende Middle School. The students are able to learn and develop skills in a variety of sports as well as increasing and/or maintaining their personal fitness level. I expect all students who take PE/Fitness to participate and show effort in all activities. Physical activity needs to be a part of our everyday life, and if we can instill this idea in these students at this age and make it fun, then we will have given them the tools, knowledge, and  desire to lead physically active lives.
    Here’s to another great year!
Please call or e-mail me if you have any concerns.

    Stay active and healthy,
