Positive Parenting Series
In March, 2018, Kyrene launched the first in the “Positive Parenting Series”. These presentations are geared toward providing parents, students and community members with valuable information related to a variety of topics such as how to identify risk behaviors, bullying, socio-emotional health of students, and suicide prevention. The first topic was "Kids Under the Influence—What Every Parent Needs to Know About the Often Hidden Impact of Screen Time and Social Media", presented by the Guiran Institute. The presentation was repeated again in May. In June, the District presented with local law enforcement on the topic of “Keeping Our Schools Safe” and addressed Kyrene’s efforts to ensure the safety and security of our schools, staff and students. View upcoming and past presentations below.
In the 21-22 school year, Kyrene will offer many more topics of interest to our community through partnerships with Tempe Coalition and Not My Kid.

Be in the Know: Chemicals of Concern and Common Sense
Drugs have evolved over the decades. Youth use starts earlier with more potent chemicals like nicotine, THC and opioids. Vaping is prevalent and fentanyl is killing people. Kids have access to it all. Anyone can fall into the use and life of addiction. In 2020, there were over 250 drug overdoses daily in the US. Let’s work together to be knowledgeable or “in the know” and save lives. In this class you will learn about the facts, trends, signs of use, causes of death and resources for preventing and intervening.
