    Hello DISCOVERosity Zone Volunteers!

Please stay tuned for updated 2021-22 DZ Information!

The following information is from the 2019-2020 school year:

Thank you SO much for your interest in volunteering in Colina's DISCOVERosity Zone (DZ). We are so fortunate to have a special place like the DISCOVERosity Zone at Colina and would like to thank Mrs. Brunner and staff for bringing it to us. The DZ cannot exist without our awesome Colina volunteers!

Our DZ will be open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays during lunch (class visitation schedule).
6-9 students from different classes and grades (24-30 total) will come into the DZ during their lunch recess for a 20 minute session between 10:20am - 12:20pm. We need volunteers on a regular basis (daily, weekly, monthly or whenever you can), to keep it running. Shifts are 2 hours including set-up and clean-up: Tuesdays 10:20-12:20 (5, 4, 1), Wednesdays 10:20-12:20 (3, K, 2) and Thursdays 10:40-12:20 (3, 5, 2).

Many thanks to the DISCOVERosity Zone volunteers who make the room a success!

Please come in and see how it works! Volunteers will be with a veteran on their first shift so that they will have a practical orientation. *Don't forget, your child is always welcome in the DZ during your shift, even if it is not their class's day.  Volunteers arrive at 10:10am to set-up, so even if you want to stop in to see the set-up or take-down or just part of the session you are welcome!

No science background necessary. We will provide training. If you are not a parent of a Colina student, but would like to volunteer, we can help you through the process to get a fingerprint clearance card.

Lunch recess volunteer duties might include:

    • Checking in /attendance
    • Walking students to/from classroom, MPR or restrooms
    • Helping students with stations (tearing tape at the Invention Bin, changing batteries, fixing marble run, etc..)
    • Running a hands-on interactive station
    • Cleaning up

We also need at home/after hours volunteers to: Cut, construct, research, email, make copies, laminate, etc...

Looking forward to seeing you all this year!

    Thanks,
    The Colina DISCOVERosity Zone Team
