Welcome to 4th grade and, more specifically, my classroom! I am excited to be teaching your children. I have a feeling that some of you might be a bit curious about who I am. I live in Gilbert with my husband, Gerry, and our two children, Madison & Max. My husband teaches biology at Desert Vista High School. He enjoys teaching high school students (something I am not sure that I could do). He is very active and is always doing something outside such as trail running, mountain biking, etc. My hobbies include scrapbooking, reading, and traveling. My husband and I will be married twenty-five years in March.
This is my 28th year teaching. I started out in Tempe School District teaching special education. I have a Master’s degree in special education from Arizona State University, and taught that for seven years before making the switch to regular education. I taught fourth grade and fifth grade for many years as well. I so enjoy teaching children of this age! The children are young enough to still be excited about learning and school, but old enough to do some things independently.
My goal as a teacher is to create a class community where students feel safe and respected. I believe that by creating this community, children are more open to express and challenge themselves academically and socially. It is my hope to help students acquire the skills and knowledge they need in order to become respectful, caring, and contributing members of society.
Welcome to fourth grade!
