    3rd Grade

     purple arrow  demonstrate understanding of melodic movement by step, leap and repeat
     purple arrow  sing and dance to songs of different cultures
     purple arrow  sing more accurately on pitch with a greater range
     purple arrow  move rhythmically to a steady beat
     purple arrow  demonstrate understanding of form (how music is put together)
     purple arrow  play melodies and accompaniments on instruments
     purple arrow  read and play rhythms using quarter, eighth, half and whole notes, and quarter, 
       half and whole rests
            
        
    4th Grade
    Students will:
     purple arrow  read and play more complex rhythm patterns (syncopation, sixteenth notes)
     purple arrow  recognize chord progressions
     purple arrow  sing in rounds
     purple arrow  move rhythmically to a steady beat
     purple arrow  create chants and accompaniments
     purple arrow  read and write notes on a staff
     purple arrow  begin playing the recorder (a flute-like wind instrument) and develop playing skills

     purple arrow  create melodies on pitched percussion
     purple arrow  sing and dance to songs of different cultures
        
     
    5th Grade
    Students will:

     purple arrow  create melodies on recorder and play alone

     purple arrow  create melodies and accompaniments within specific guidelines

     purple arrow  sing songs in a variety of styles
     purple arrow  write melodies and accompaniments for varied instruments
