About Miss Polay
Hello parents and families,
My name is Rachel Polay. I earned a bachelor’s degree in English Creative Writing from Brigham Young University – Idaho in 2013 and a master’s degree in Teaching and Teacher Education from the University of Arizona in 2017. During the 2016-2017 school year, I completed my internship and student teaching, teaching 7th grade English Language Arts at Aprende Middle School. I have taught Summer Academy, Reading Intervention, and 7th and 8th grade ELA. I am proud to be a Jaguar and am equally proud to have the opportunity to work with your children in this amazing community.
I love to read and write. When I was in 7th grade my favorite authors included J.K. Rowling, J.R.R. Tolkien, Orson Scott Card, and Shel Silverstein. Outside of school, I enjoy sports, cars, motorcycles, movies, music, video games, and being outdoors. So given my many and varied interests, my hope is that we will all get along well together.
My philosophy of Language Arts coincides closely and informatively with the following quote from Martha Sweeny, “Something significant, magical, and inspiring happens with each work you read in the pages of a book. You explore new lands, meet new people, feel new emotions, and are no longer the same person you were one word prior to reading it.” It is my firmest belief that together, we are going to find that inspiration and magic within language arts and the ability to explore new people, theories, and ideas. In other words, we will become new people inspired by great literature.
I look forward to learning and working together to explore the English language this upcoming 2020-2021 school year.
