    About The Teacher

Hello! My name is Susan Peine and I am excited to be a part of the 5th grade team at Kyrene de la Esperanza. Teaching is my passion and I look forward to working with our students as we explore, investigate, read, discuss and celebrate the many different ideas that make up 5th grade.

I have a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from The University of Mount Union in Ohio and a Master of Science in Education with a S.T.E.M focus from the University of Nevada in Reno. I am also a National Board Certified Teacher with a focus on students between the ages of 7 to 12.  My work experience includes many years of teaching 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students and one year teaching prekindergarten. I've taught in Cleveland, Ohio; Arlington, Virginia; Gallup, New Mexico; and most recently Fernley, Nevada.

I grew up as an Air Force "brat" and moved 8 times before I was 18 years old. If you ask where I'm from, the short answer is "Ohio" but I can always give you the long answer in person. My husband, son, and I now call Phoenix home but our 85 pound black poodle misses living where we see snow in the winter. Luckily, we love to travel and enjoy exploring the high desert areas of the Southwest.

I love reading or listening to a good story, running and hiking on a scenic trail, and drinking a strong, dark coffee. When I'm not teaching, it's likely you'll find me on the trails of South Mountain. I look forward to working with the students to ensure they have a successful year.
