About Señora Adams
Dear Parents and Students,
It’s an honor to be working with you this year as an Aprende Jaguar Spanish teacher!
I grew up in Gilbert, Arizona in a bilingual household. My mother is from Lima, Perú and my father is from Colorines, México. I was fortunate to have a very rich experience with both languages from an early age, and I hope to pass the gift of bilingualism on to my students, as well as my three young sons.
I graduated from Chandler High School and after 17 years in the desert, I decided to leave the beautiful Southwest in search of snow. I attended Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and earned my Bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Policy & Management. However, it was my minor in Second Language Acquisition that led me to continue studying applied linguistics at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. where I earned my Master’s degree in Bilingual Education.
Soon after, I began teaching Spanish in a middle school in Arlington, Virginia. I’ve also taught middle school Spanish in Baltimore, Maryland and Gilbert, Arizona. This will be my 18th year teaching middle School Spanish. Can you tell how much I love middle school? I wouldn’t trade it for any other level—middle schoolers ROCK!
As your teacher, I hope to instill a passion and enthusiasm for learning about the Spanish language and culture. I want to give you a new way of seeing the world, and to provide you with the tools necessary to communicate with the diverse people who live in it. You are the global citizens of the future, and it’s important to keep pace with today’s constantly changing, multicultural world by learning new languages and discovering new cultures.
Whenever I have the opportunity, I love traveling to Spanish-speaking countries. I have traveled extensively throughout Mexico, as I have many family members who still reside there. I spent one month in Peru meeting all of my family members and traveling throughout the country to many different cities. As an undergraduate, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Spain (Madrid and Puerto de Santa Maria) for a semester. During graduate school I spent one summer studying in Quito, Ecuador teaching students English. At my previous middle school in Virginia, I was able to take students to Spain on Spring Break each year so that they could experience the language and culture first hand.
Aside from traveling, I absolutely love to watch sports. Since my husband is from Chicago, I tend to root for da’ Bears. But some of my other favorite teams are the Washington Capitals and the Arizona State Sun Devils (my family and husband are alma mater!). I’m sure that I will be slowly adding more Arizona teams to this list :) But perhaps one of my favorite teams is Real Madrid football club. No Messi fans over here! I also love to read, cook and spend time with my family.
I look forward to a phenomenal school year with you!
