About Mrs. Miceli
Welcome to the 2016-2017 School Year! My name is Katie Miceli. I was born and raised in Washington State on the “Spokane Side.” When it came time for me to go to college, I had the wonderful opportunity to attend Gonzaga University on an Army ROTC scholarship. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and was commissioned a Reserve Officer in 1992. I was fortunate to return to Gonzaga for further studies, and I completed a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership in 1996. Needless to say, I am a big Gonzaga Basketball fan and I enjoy every minute of the college basketball season!
I married an ROTC classmate in 1996, and we have been an Army Family ever since! I was a stay-at-home-mom to two amazing daughters and a drilling Reservist for several years until I made the pivotal decision to pursue my love of mathematics (and the other subjects, too!) and enter the classroom. I became a substitute teacher in 2006 while my husband was stationed in Northern Virginia. After moving to Washington State for his next assignment, in 2010 I was accepted into a Secondary Teacher Certification Program at St. Martin’s University in Lacey, Washington, to study teaching math to students in grades from 5 through 12.
I continued to substitute in Washington State, including two long-term positions, and I substituted for a second time in Northern Virginia until our family arrived in Phoenix last summer. We settled in over the fall months, my husband in his new position and our girls at schools nearby, and I began substituting for the Kyrene School District after winter break.
We became a part of the Kyrene family by address, but I know it was not by accident! I am honored and privileged to be a part of the Altadena staff this year. I hope my enthusiasm and passion for learning will be contagious!
