About Ms. SpeirI am a graduate of Grand Canyon University. I have been teaching Kindergarten and First Grade for 12 years. This will be my third year at Kyrene del Norte. Teaching young children to read, write, and problem solve in math is a joy of mine. I love watching the transformation of my students from the beginning of the year to the end of the year. I have been fortunate to create and co-create academic programs that offer students an opportunity to fall in love with learning. I believe in instilling in my students the idea that learning is continuous and you keep on growing as you are challenged. You will be amazed at the amount of learning that takes place in Kindergarten! Each child is special and learns in different ways. That is why in my teaching I ensure that I am addressing all the different modes of learning: visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and a combination. In kindergarten we do student centered activities that focus on the Arizona's College and Career Ready Standards. Technology is a rich resource and it is interwoven throughout our day from daily smart board lessons to educational games that reinforce the skills the students are learning.
Helping my students make great gains socially and emotionally is also an area I hold dear to my heart. Kindergarten is a time children are learning to be at school in a group setting. We are working on sharing, using our words, and building confidence in our learning by taking risks and verbally expressing to our peers how we came up with our answer. Higher level thinking is encouraged and students are prompted to go beyond just knowing the answer.
Regardless of the experience and expertise of any teacher, research shows that the biggest and most important factor in a student’s school success is the involvement of the PARENT in daily school experiences. I am very excited to be your child’s teacher and together we will make Kindergarten an enjoyable and lasting experience.
