About Michelle AndersonIt is with great pleasure and excitement that I introduce myself as the assistant principal of Kyrene de la Mirada Leadership Academy.
I have been privileged to have spent 20 wonderful years as an educator working with students from the elementary, middle and high school, and collegiate levels. The commonality of my experiences is that a school environment works best when there is love, respect and collaboration within the school community. I believe this collaboration will give our students the best possible educational experiences and will continue to build upon a strong foundation and culture that already exists at Mirada Leadership Academy.I am from upstate New York and I have been in Arizona since 1990. I briefly moved to Chicago, Illinois for two years, and then I returned to Arizona in 1997. How did I end up in Arizona? Well, I received a full athletic scholarship to Arizona State University to be their high jumper on the Track team. I currently hold the New York State High Jump record at a jump of 6’3/4” and I was the number one high jumper in the nation in high school. I am a two-time All American High Jumper. I am married and have two sons.
As a school administrator, my foundational beliefs are that we prepare students to be kind, compassionate, productive, prepared, collaborative and problem solving citizens. In order to accomplish this, we must provide a learning environment that is safe and secure for all students and staff. I realize that differentiated, rigorous, and relevant instruction that meets the needs of each student will be the vehicle to continuing the success that has been experienced. A team approach most definitely is necessary to create and maintain that desired learning environment.Every day I strive to lead by our school's mission, "Inspiring academic excellence, while celebrating strengths, developing leaders and honoring diversity."
Believing in a growth mindset is something that I seek to instill in our students. The following quote is something that I recite daily, "Those who say it can't be done, are usually interrupted by those doing it."
