    About Sr. García

    Dear Parents and Students,

My name is Sr. Nathanael García Cork.  I am teaching Spanish for grades 6-8 this year.  I am originally from Iowa and grew up there most of my life.  I spent one year in Germany as an exchange student as well as some trips to Germany and México as part of my studies.  I've also luckily been able to add Guatemala, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Perú, and Panamá to my list in recent years.
Educationally, I have studied Spanish, German, some Chinese and Japanese and received my BA in Spanish at Buena Vista University in Iowa.  I have received my ESL Endorsement from William Penn University also in Iowa. My Masters in Education was obtained through University of Phoenix and I have endorsements in K-8 Elementary, K-12 Spanish, and K-12 SEI.  I continue to take classes and am always trying to learn more.
Professionally, this is my 16th year working in Schools.  I started out as an ESL teacher and Spanish interpreter.  After getting my teaching degree, I taught High School Spanish, followed by Middle School Spanish, some subbing, one odd year at Barnes and Noble and 5th Grade.  I also spent some time teaching at William Penn University in their Teacher Education program.  I have now rebounded back to middle school, which I truly love with 5 years in Kyrene.
My spouse, Danny, and I live in Mesa and have 2 chihuahuas named Daisy and Kai, and 2 cats names Dagmar and Mía.  We often take the dogs out for walks in the park or hikes when it's cooler.  I love going to Home Depot and working on home projects.  I also enjoy working with plants and landscaping.  I am always getting pieces of plants to try and propogate and grow my own.  Barnes & Noble is another favorite.
A few of my current projects include:  reading the House of Night books, creating bracelets/wall hangings with my grand parent's old horse equipement, identifying all of my plants and labeling them (cactus, agaves, aloes, trees, bushes, etc).
I am super excited about this school year and look forward to helping all our students to increase their proficiency in the Spanish language.
    Sr. García
