About Ms. Li
Hello Kyrene del Norte students and families! My name is Susan Li and this is my 13th year of teaching. I had previously taught 2nd grade in the Phoenix Elementary School District. For 3 years, I've taught 1st grade at Kyrene del Norte. For the remaining years, I taught the English side of 3rd grade dual language. This year, I am ready to do it again!
I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in education from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I have endorsements in science and mathematics, early childhood, and SEI as well. Growing up, I've taught piano and violin both privately and in group settings. I also tutored middle school students and assisted in summer school programs in the Ann Arbor school district in Michigan.
I moved to to Phoenix, Arizona in July 2011. I had always wanted to move to Arizona because I loved sunshine and heat. I needed to escape the cold, snowy winters that Michigan have. After moving here, I decided that I love Phoenix and that it's definitely my place. Phoenix has a beautiful landscape and such a rich culture.
I have two dogs named Migu and Coco. Migu is an Australian Shepherd and Border Collie mix. Coco is an Australian Shepherd and Great Pyrenese mix. We enjoy hiking and playing fetch.
My hobbies include hiking, playing music, and traveling. I had played the violin since I was 2 years old and the piano since I was 7 years old. Throughout high school, I had the pleasure of playing in the Flint Youth Symphony Orchestra, where we traveled for performances to places such as England and France. I played the piano competitively, winning numerous competitions including the Flint Concerto Competition. Traveling gives me a lot of joy. I've been to places from China to Egypt, from Greece to Australia.
I'm very excited to begin the 2020-2021 school year. I look forward to working with all of you. It's going to be a great year!
